Yoga Exercise To Strengthen Your Abs
We all hear about how working the core is the most important thing you can do for your body. OK, I’ll do my sit ups and I’ll get a stronger core, right? Not exactly. The core is actually a group of muscles that might include, depending on who you talk to, your abdominals, your back muscles, your gluteals, your inner thighs and pelvic floor muscles. Basically: the core consists of all the muscles that work on the pelvic girdle. Stabilization of the pelvic girdle as well as strengthening all the muscles listed above, is really the key when talking about working your core. Sit ups won’t do it for you. In fact, sit ups work more hip flexors than anything else and have been proven to put a great deal of load on the lumbar spine. A better choice are exercises that challenge not only abdominals, but balance. Exercises that utilize more than one muscle group at a time, like a plank position. These are the more functional choices and target your core better. So yes, work your core! But find the right yoga exercises to get the job done.
