Open Up and Say Oooooommmmmmmm

Despite the fact that I had a full schedule today (all of the prep work before taking off for 10 days in Vermont), I started the day with an extra-long yoga practice. I find that on those days that I feel I can spare the least instance for my practice are the days I need it the most.

I went with a medium flow practice and held my poses a bit longer than usual. It felt nice to settle in and feel my body working — and soon after thinking about what modifications I could form in order to produce the poses more comfortable. When I felt myself starting to struggle, I did something that I don’t normally do but will certainly do again — I chanted Om while holding the pose. I’ve heard of Shiva Rea recommending that, and I’ve practiced yoga with a Jeff Migdow-trained Prana Yoga teacher, who encouraged chanting the

chakra vowel sounds during poses. I really enjoyed feeling the vibration reverberate through my body, seemingly breaking up any blockages. The highlight of my practice was the amazing feeling of opening I experienced while chanting Om in a back bend — wow! And, damn, did my voice sound amazing!

I enjoy adding new elements to my practice every now and again. I got a great start to my day and I’m just about ready to go tomorrow (I still have some last-minute packing to do — gloves, check. Hat, check. Boots, check…). I’m looking forward to my Vermont adventure. I won’t be back until the 10th of December, so the blog will be quite for a bit. Enjoy these next few weeks, and I’ll be back with a post about my adventures shortly.

Namaste!
